The verdict of blogging at WordPress.com…

I’ve been using WordPress.com for a few weeks now as my blogging platform and so far I love it. The only part I dislike is getting readers, because it seems that isn’t happening over here either. But I know it is not WP.com’s fault! I must be doing something wrong, or I’m writing about non-interesting stuff.

The pros and cons

Like I mentioned above I really like the move here. WP.com really has a lot of benefits over self hosted WordPress. For one, I do not have to mess with stupid web hosts! I can focus on blogging and do that no matter if the readers come or not. I like the UI a lot more as well and the fact that I can finally use Google photos properly when I’d like to use a personal photo in a post. It’s also possible to insert a featured image via url as well, and I’ve done so in this post.

I finally have a blogging platform that will work and continue to do so for as long as I continue to blog in my life. However, I’m still struggling over if it was the best choice to keep writing in English as well. I want to keep doing it right now, because I feel like doing it. The no readers part is just so sad. The Facebook page is practically non-existent as well and I do not like to nag at people so they start following it. I already run like 4 FB pages (including the one for this blog) and two of them have decent following. I also run basically every FB page we use at work so it’s a lot to keep up with. However, after I started writing this post on my phone last night, I decided to make an experiment and I invited basically all of my FB friends and it’s a success! I’ve gone from 3 likes to at least 19 since yesterday evening, and that’s awesome! Maybe there’s hope anyway? I certainly do wish that many of those who likes my FB page will come to read the posts as well.

The cons are few. Basically I’d wish that I could have a personal domain without paying for it, or easily get back my old url that I’ve used in the past when I tried WP.com in secret just because I could. I probably could talk to the support about it. They should know that I’m the original owner of some domains I’ve used here, but I don’t know if it’s worth it. If only I could get like a steady 20+ readers or so for every post, it would be worth it but now it seems more like I’m doomed and this English blog is only here for my own stupid reasons. Blogging, anyways should always be something you first and mainly thing you do for yourself. If you get readers and comments, congrats! If not, then keep on doing it anyway because you’re doing this for yourself. Everything else is just a bonus.

But I love blogging, and I really do not care. Or at least I do my best not to care by doing just this – nag and be negative about not getting readers. I haven’t really cared or thought about this “problem” for a long time now, but it saddens me yet again that this blog is so far unsuccessful, but I hope that will change with me gaining more FB page followers.

Well, if you’ve read this far, I thank you and I thank you even more if you follow my FB page and also my YouTube channels. The main one, which you’ll find here, I’ll plan on uploading a video soon, so please keep a lookout for the next video there. Thanks!

  1. Welcome to blogging. If you’ve hit 19 “Likes” after only a few weeks, you’re doing pretty well. Advertising on other social media platforms helps, although I discovered that not many Facebook people like to read! (If yours is a picture blog, maybe that will be different). You should also comment on and “like” other people’s blog posts, since it tends to be reciprocal. Good luck.

    1. Thanks! I’ve actually blogged consistently in Swedish since 2009, but I’ve only run a blog in English off and on since then. Since the last time I started this blog it has failed pretty miserably, but I’m glad I finally got some likes on the Facebook page.

I’d definitely comment and follow a lot more blogs if I can find active blogs to follow. Many of those I used to follow have quit blogging and many that I follow today are not that active. Thanks a bunch, though for your comment! Made my day!

      1. Haha, I hear that a lot! I’m born and raised in Sweden, but I’ve worked hard to be almost perfect at English. Sometimes it’s hard to find the words, but when I can I mostly fool everybody thinking I’m American. If anything, I’m really proud of that talent!
