Why I’m not vegan – yet.

This is a rant, and also some information to all those angry vegans who do not accept other non-vegans no matter what reasons they might have for not being vegan. Like comparing them to being murderers, rapists or pedophiles. FFS! How do you think you’re helping the vegan movement by those saying those words to people?! I think you’re a jerk😡. In the video below, Brian Turner explains a little bit of how I feel about this as well. It’s worth a watch!

My reasons for not being vegan might seem stupid for many, but I stick by my choice. I’ve been wanting to go vegan since 2012 or so, from the first time I saw Forks over Knives and all those older vegan documentaries. The reason for why I’ve waited for so long is because I waited for my BF to also see the truth and follow along and at least become vegetarian. Anything else about him and his choices/reasons I’m leaving left unsaid due to showing him some respect. This blog is about me, myself and I anyway and what I think about stuff.

When I finally went vegetarian I was so happy. I thought that it would change everything, that I’d finally be healthy, loose all the weight and regain my former self with less brain-fog and less pain in my body. So far nothing has happened. It’s been the opposite. I keep gaining weight and my health is worse. My belly is about 38″ (97 cm)wide, where it really should be around 26″ (67 cm or at least below 70 cm), and I’m gaining inches in places I did not even know I could fit more fat.

Just to be clear. Before I gained all this weight I was an adult and my belly or waist has always been around 65-70 cm, with some minor fluctuations before I got together with my BF. I was of the illusion that I could never get fat, because in my family we basically only gain weight by having kids and I wasn’t having any. Growing up I always ate a healthier diet than most, with lots of vegetables and fruits, and candy, chips and all that other good stuff was only meant to be eaten in a tiny quantity on some days. That means that I’ve been used to eating everything in moderation, but I was planning on having an adult life where I could eat candy etc whenever I wanted to without gaining weight, since that would be impossible. Little did I know back then that eating crap and lots of it makes you fat – even little old me, vegetarian or not so there you go.

I should also mention that even as an adult, before I got together with my BF, I did eat whatever I wanted for many years, but I still kept it in moderation. A bag of candy, or a bag of potato chips could easily last for days before, but now – not so much, unless I eat all of it by myself. Then it could probably last for days, but I’m more interested these days to let go of the processed crap junk-foods and eat more WFPB, as you well now by now.

My weight goal is not to be as skinny as possible, just to be healthy again and feel better than I do right now. Have more energy, find my words easier and have less pain as well, have clothes that fit better, like I did when I was a lot younger. I’m not trying to be anorexic, orthorexic or anything else. Just healthy! Let’s continue with the rant, shall we?

My boobs have gained a cup size (and maybe a half?) since I started to gain more weight about 3 years ago. Yes, before I went vegetarian. It’s been a slippery slope for oh so many years now… Why? Because I’ve become more lazy, more tired etc due to eating a really crappy diet. Yes. You can eat crappy by being vegetarian as well. It’s so darn easy when you eat processed crap and too many cookies. And I hate it! I should be glad if I get 10-15 grams of fiber in me on a daily basis and also if I meet all my nutrient requirements. I probably have not for many years. At least not the fiber part… And my IBS let’s me know it! Not to mention my acid reflux.

In January of this year (2019), I made the decision to advance a whole lot more vegan foods with more fiber and Whole Foods (WF). I have sort of succeeded, but it’s gone slow and instead of losing weight, I’ve actually gained some more, but it’s more like I haven’t tried enough and I’ve still been eating too much processed crap, candy, potato chips and cakes/cookies. As soon as I eat more healthy with more fiber and WF, I notice a difference within a few days. I did however loose a tiny bit of weight in the beginning of the year, but I quickly gained that back when I had a bit of a setback and ate a lot worse again for a few months.

Now it’s summer and I do not have to attend school daily so eating better will be a lot easier. I’ve noticed that those annoying fat deposits I wrote about earlier above have decreased a little from my new eating habits, but it’s going slow as per usual. Hey, better that they slowly disappear and never come back instead of they keep getting bigger and I get more uncomfortable. The first time I tried to eat the way I do now, it was a success, but it did not last. The reason for that was because I mainly just ate the same stuff over and over.

I was fine and am fine in general to eat the same meals often, but the choice of daals (lentil stews) was not a good one. At least the ones I made. They became boring so fast! It was the main reason why I quit, because they only tasted good the first day or so. This time, the plan is to eat more what I feel like and don’t blame myself if I get less fiber for breakfast or lunch one day and a whole lot more some other day. I hope that this summer of a whole lot more of a WFPB vegan diet will help me get my strength and health back so I can continue on this path for school later on when I go back for my 2nd year. That is if I can pass half my math class… 🤬

The plan to become more vegan is to try to eat both my breakfasts and lunches completely vegan and when possible, maximize the fiber and nutrient intake. The best would be if breakfast and lunch together would be around 50-60 grams of fiber. Here’s me hoping for the best! I’ve been checking cronometer a lot these past two weeks since I started eating like this and it’s looking good. The main reason for using cronometer is to check the fiber content and nutrients, so no worries! Many people tend to panic when they hear people using that site, but it’s a really good source to check that you’re getting enough nutrients and fiber in your diet.

It’s a lot easier than I thought to get 50+ grams of fiber a day, and as long as my dinner is not really low grade in nutrients, I basically meet all my requirements and that’s good. The only problem with eating that much fiber is that it takes me like 5-6 hours at least to get hungry again, and that’s a problem right now with the planning of dinners. I’m working on that too, and the best solution is to have a fiber rich smoothie in the morning and try to eat lunch at noon or way before 1 o’ clock.

A fiber rich smoothie, for those of you who wonders means that I use about 30 grams of chia seeds, about 15 grams of flaxseeds and sometimes 10 grams of psyllium husk powder in my smoothies to get all that fiber in. I also try to always have 100 grams of everything else, and always use rasberries or some other really fiber rich berry in the smoothie to get more fiber. Generally, I can get a smoothie that’s nutrient dense and fiber rich with about 35 grams of fiber if I use the basis I mentioned.

This image above show what a typical day of eating breakfast and lunch would contain. The hummus is added for like a possible sauce for dinners and/or dipping veggies in for lunch. The oat milk is added for vitamin D and B12. The brand of psyllium husk seeds does not matter, there is the same amount of fiber in all of them. I get 66 grams of fiber and 91% nutrients targeted from just eating this on a daily basis. I could certainly live like this.

With this base smoothie I get almost 50% of my daily targets. That’s pretty awesome. I drink it slowly, I can get about a liter(32 oz) of smoothie of this. I have to use more water due to the psyllium husk powder. If I did not use that, I’d get a 5 dl (16 oz) smoothie instead, but the fiber is more important to me right now. Below is a list of ingredients I use normally in my smoothies. It’s a good thing to thaw the berries and other frozen stuff first before blending.

  • 100 grams of frozen rasberries
  • 100 grams of frozen strawberries
  • 100 grams of frozen spinage or kale (or other leafy greens), optional but use frozen to get a 100 grams of it easier.
  • 30 grams of chia seeds, crushed or not
  • 15 grams of flax seeds, whole or crushed (In Sweden, only whole are available)
  • 10 grams of psyllium husk powder
  • 1 liter of water (32 oz), or half if psyllium husk powder is not used and berries are thawed beforehand.

I am taking my steps towards being vegan slowly, and I’m doing what I can to change the stuff in my home as well. I now use the humble tooth brush, and whenever I can I use vegan shampoos and conditioners. Sometimes I’m “forced” to use non-vegan stuff, but that’s due to my own mobility issues. For example, I am lousy at using my hands for anything other than typing on a computer, so washing my hair with a shampoo that does not lather that much only makes my scalp itch, so I have to use other products for that. There’s a lot of buildup and residue, and only a well foamed shampoo helps with that.

If I could find a vegan shampoo that lather as much as any non-vegan product, I’d buy it without having to rinse and repeat. I find that process tedious as F. I actually have started to hate washing my hair, because it takes so long. Now I’ve got shorter hair again, but it’s still tedious to wash it and conditioners generally also make my hair greasier a lot sooner, so I really do prefer using only shampoos when possible. I’ve also tried to switch out other house hold products such as dish washing soap and cleaning products to vegan ones.

If I was the only one living in this apartment, everything would be vegan and chemical free, but my lovely does not like the vegan products. He believes they do not make it all clean, but that’s bullshit. I clean our toilets with this soap and it works wonders! I’ve done so for years! The hand wash soap in my current bathroom is almost always a vegan one as well. My current skin products are almost all vegan. I’m not so sure about some of them, but all the lotions are vegan at least! Now I only have to find a toothpaste that’s vegan and lathers a lot. Do you have any ideas on brands to use? Leave a comment and let me know. I now use Aquafresh, which is most likely tested on animals and with the toothpaste itself containing tiny plastic particles that’s hurting the oceans and the fish. I’d really like to not use that (due to the plastics issue), but I have not found an alternative yet. But according to their websites, it’s totally free of animal products, so that’s good! I really like that toothpaste! Knowing that it’s animal free makes me feel better about using it.

To sum it up, I’m doing my very best to be more vegan in my life. My goal is to be vegan someday, but when I’ll get there I have no idea. If I could eat like i plan do to during this summer, that’s more than good enough for me for a foreseeable future. My plan is not to go vegan overnight, go all in and stop being vegan after X weeks, months or years. My plan is to go vegan and stay vegan. Until I die! When that day happens, I’d stopped wanting to eat the processed non-vegan junkfoods, candy and cookies etc or I’ve found really good replacements for all of them. Even if I never get to be a 100% WFPB vegan, that’s fine. I’d like to have cheat days, like I’ve written before, but it would be good for my health, and the planet if my food was like 90% WFPB and 100% vegan. That’s the main goal to be honest. Any step towards that is a great step in my opinion. You have no idea how proud I feel of myself when I have completely vegan days of eating.😍

But right now, I’m glad I’ve started to do something for real again and I’ll do my best to keep on doing it. If this works like I want it too, it could mean that I’m gonna be vegan within 3-5 years or even sooner than that, but if I go back to my bad eating habits again, I’d might as well be dead of cancer and/or heart disease before I’m 45. That’s how bad it probably is or will be if I change nothing. Considering the bad place my health has been for so many years, I have to do my best to be better, eat better, live better. When I go vegan, I’ll be vegan for life.

And this is how I plan on doing it.

Cats and dogs are carnivores and should never be fed otherwise. Period!

This post is about the evergrowing thing about what we choose to feed our carnivorous pets, like cats and dogs. My personal view on this is pretty simple. Dogs and cats are carnivores and should not be fed otherwise. However, there are reasons why I believe that you can (or could) have a healthy “thriving” cat or dog that is fed vegan, and I shall explain why in this post.

Let’s begin!

My whole life goal has been to get a Great Dane. This year of 2018 I’ve waited more than 20 years for one, and I shall have to wait a bit longer as well. I am also currently a vegetarian, striving towards becoming a vegan someday. A vegan who has the right to call themselves vegan, because my diet will be vegan. Does that mean that my future Great Dane will be vegan? Of course not! That would just be stupid, since dogs are carnivores. I admit, they are scavenging carnivores, but they have the dietary tracts and features of a carnivore. Dogs can survive on a so called omnivorous diet, but that does not mean it is the optimal diet for a dog, since they are carnivores by nature. They are designed to eat meat, flesh, bones and intestines. Just like us humans are herbivores. We are designed to eat plants such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains. Animal products make us sick because we are built to eat plants and vice versa for carnivorous animals. Especially dogs and cats. Dr. Becker explains more in the video below:

Everything she says is great except for the part where she says that humans are omnivores, since that is not true, like I explained before. But I’m not the expert here, I’m just another blogger making a valid point about facts. We are not omnivores by design, although we stupidly enough consume animal products even though we are not made to eat that.

Dr. Becker in the video above say that cats and dogs are very resilient animals. The same is true for humans. We do not just die if we are suddenly fed the wrong thing. No, instead it takes years for us to develop things such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Same is true for cats and dogs. But I don’t want to repeat myself. This is just the facts. The links to these facts can be found in former posts and also in other links in this posts.

What I mean by that is your vegan dog or cat can as of now seem very healthy. I am not sure, though how long that will last though. And also, what I mean by a healthy dog is mainly by these standards:

  • No smell of dog or a lot less smelly fur
  • More balanced energy according to breed and age of the dog
  • Less shedding from before the diet change
  • Shiny  and/or softer fur
  • No giant dog poops and pretty much odorless poops as well
  • Less signs of aging, graying of the fur, mobility etc.
  • Shiny teeth with no plaque and no bad breath
  • Healthy weight according to breed and age

All things mentioned in the list above have been found in dogs and cats that are fed their natural diet, which should be raw meat, bones and intestines. You can also read a more thorough post here about it.  I you have a vegan dog that also share these benefits, please let me know, because I have not yet seen anybody saying that they’ve seen these health benefits so far. What I mean by that is I have read people say that the coat is shiny, but what about smelly poops? Or giant poops for that matter? If the dog is truly healthy it should mean that the poops are really tiny, odorless and break down fast if left on the ground. Just to mention a funny thing about dog shit;

I’ve read in a FB group that feed their dogs raw (aka a meat-based diet) that they have had bags in their pockets filled with dog poop for weeks and did not notice that for a long time, because the poop did not smell. Has that ever happened to a vegan dog? I’d really like to know.

I think it is also important to not look at only individual cases. Just because a thousand dogs have gone vegan does not mean that dogs should be vegan in general, since they are built like carnivores. I know some dogs will live longer on a vegan diet, but that is also true for some humans that smoke, drink and eat tons of bacon and still live to be a hundred years old. The science overall says differently for both dog and human health.

How vegan dogs can get better on the wrong foods

If you understand Swedish, you can read my post on my blog about my earlier statements regarding vegan diets for dogs. I claim there that the main reason that dogs tend to get well or a whole lot better on a vegan diet is because the previous diet was basically shit. I mean, it is so logical that commercial dry pet foods are filled with garbage! No wonder dogs and cats get sick from that?! First of all, the dry pet food is not raw and in their natural state, just like Oreos are vegan, but not a Whole Food. See the difference? I totally understand why dogs get rid of their allergies etc while being on a vegan diet, because that diet probably means that they are fed a more “clean” diet, even though it is based on the wrong kind of food for a carnivore. I personally think it’s the cleanliness of a vegan diet that gives positive results, but what if you’d feed the dog a Biologically Appropriate Raw Diet instead? I bet you’d get the same results, if not even a whole lot better results. The downside to that is all the other animals having to die for your dog to get his or her food. But that’s nature, really…

The ethical side of things and why lab grown meat will be a win-win.

Oh, yes, here comes the whole dilemma and I understand most (if not all) of it. My whole idea regarding the ethics is basically that I’m waiting for lab grown meat to be available as a replacement for the meat humans consume today. When that happens, hopefully before 2025 or something like that, then I believe that lab grown meat is the perfect food for our carnivorous pets! Don’t you? As a vegetarian, going on vegan I’d never eat lab grown meat, because it’s still meat and bad for us humans, but for pets! OMG! That’d be wonderful!

Before that happens I still believe that all creatures in our living world should be fed the optimal diet for their own species. Us humans should all be WFPB vegans for optimal health, carnivores should be fed a meat-based diet and so on. If we keep doing it like we have been for way too long now, everything is only gonna get worse in the end with even more people being ill from our top killers and the same goes for our pets. Even though I’m a vegetarian today and striving towards being a vegan, I think it’s cruel for any living thing to be deprived of their natural and optimal diet. With the vegan movement changing all that for the human health, the planet’s health and for the animals, that will all get better in the end. I just desperately hope that lab grown meat will very soon be here and replace factory farming and other means of killing animals for their flesh and bones, because then every carnivorous pet we all love could be fed a cruelty-free diet and live a whole lot better for it.

No, having pets is not vegan, because veganism starts with the human diet.

I also have a few things to say about the whole garbage idea that having pets is not vegan. What do people mean by that? Like I’ve explained in another post of mine, it is so confusing when people refers to everything as being “vegan” or not. No, I do not believe that it is “vegan” to have pets. That’s because pets and what you choose to eat every day is not the same thing. No matter if you choose to eat an omnivorous diet or a vegan one. It might be a better way to say it. Is having pets cruel? Well, yes – if you feed them the wrong kind of diet and/or if you think of the ethical aspects of the killed animals for your carnivorous pets. But having pets in themselves have absolutely nothing to do with veganism as far as I’m concerned. They’re pets, or more likely highly valuable family members. I see my cat Maja as my baby, because that’s what she is in my view and I believe she sees us as mommy and daddy.

I absolutely adore people who do the whole #adoptdontshop thing. It’s amazing! But something like that is not for me. Regarding the whole thing about breeding dogs for looks, temper etc I totally am aware about horrible breeders destroying breeds of cats and dogs continuesly for looks instead of focusing on a healthier breed.

That is why, whenever I’ll get my Great Dane I will choose an awesome breeder that does not change the breed of Great Danes for the worse. In fact, I’ve already found them. I have found a breeder (and believe it or not, I’ve known them for almost 20 years) that spends years finding the perfect Great Danes to breed. They are primarily focused on finding healthy dogs with longevity that also follows the breeding standards of the breed. Their Great Danes look like Great Danes should, and for me that is really important. I will never buy a Great Dane from a breeder that does not put the best for the breed first. That is also a huge factor regarding why I’ve waited for so long to get a Great Dane. My breeder of choice haven’t had a litter in over 3 years. They just got a new one and the puppies are now 4 weeks of age. I’ll unfortunately have to wait a bit longer until I’m ready to have a Great Dane as well, but I hope I’ll have my baby as soon as I have a better job so I can afford it.

For me, I could never choose to go vegan over getting a Great Dane. No, that is not possible. In my mind you can have the cake and eat it too. You can be vegan, and eat a WFPB diet, while you have a Great Dane by your side that eats a Raw diet based on meat and other animal products. And you can both be healthy and hopefully in the future, cruelty-free.

More about vegan terminology…

After my post I wrote about vegan terminology I felt that even though I said a lot, I have even more to say about it. First of all, is it really that important to use the terminology for everything? I mean, if you’re a meat eater, you generally do not have a term for it. You just eat food and probably do not care about where it comes from, if you eat an animal like a cow or a pig or that your shampoo has been tested on animals as well. I mean – who cares, right? The same thing should also apply if you’re vegetarian in some shape or form. As long as you eat a certain vegan-ish way that should mean that everything is fine, right?

Life was certainly a lot easier back then when I knew nothing about my food. I just ate it and felt as good as I possibly could, even though I’ve been sort of sick my whole life fro fibromyalgia, IBS and the like. I did not think about the consequences that my food choice made on the planet or my health. It was just food. Today it is so different and I’m not perfect, but today I think it is really important to use words correctly in order to not mislead or confuse people. Especially since so many people still do not care about what they eat and how it affects health, animals and our planet. That is why terminology is important to me, and why the term for vegan(ism) has to change.

What I have learned now, going back since like 2012 when I first got to know a vegan personally and watched documentaries like forks over knives has really changed my life. I have learned that us humans are somewhere between herbivores and frugivores, that animal agriculture is the leading cause alone to climate change. I’ve also learned that it is possible to reverse a lot of diseases and prevent basically every single one of them as well by eating a healthy vegan diet. That is why I feel that the correct information regarding all of this needs to get out there, even though I am not yet a vegan by its terminology. Like you’ve probably read – I’m vegetarian that consumes eggs, dairy and sometimes honey. And I’m lazy and eat a lot of processed crap! But I’m striving towards being vegan someday and I hope it will be possible for me to be a vegan within 5 years or so. By the end of 2018 I at least hope I’ll have the habit of being a somewhat semi-vegan eating primarily WFPB for health reasons, but if I’m being realistic that will only work for weeks or maybe a few months at the time since I’m so lazy and have like zero energy most days. But I’m trying my best!

Anyways, on with the post. What I wanted to write about today is more about the whole thing of not being vegan enough. Like it is against the law to call yourself vegan if you do not do it for the animals. I AM SO SICK OF THAT!!! Like I mentioned in my earlier post, I base being vegan on what you eat, regardless if you eat WFPB or vegan junk food or perhaps a mix of both. YOU ARE VEGAN IF YOU EAT VEGAN FOOD!

The main reason I wanted to say something more about this whole thing that’s going on is because it feels like if you are only (and I mean only) vegan for the animals, that would mean that lab grown meat is your ultimate goal. Because then you could eat meat without worrying about the animals. Since it’s coming from real animal flesh and muscles and bones, but no animals had been killed or hurt in the process – you’d all go back to eating meat when there is a final product out there, right? Because – who cares when no animals are killed or hurt, right? Meat is vegan if no animals were hurt or killed for it, right? Even though meat is defined as an animal product? It has to be vegan if no animals were hurt or killed in the process, right? It is only vegan if you think about the animals, right? And if you are vegan for the animals you do not think about your own health, because there is no need to, right? If you are vegan, you cannot possibly also eat healthy foods as well, because then you’d be plant based and never considered being vegan, right?

I think that is such wrongness to use the word vegan for. It makes me feel like you think of cows like walking carrots with feelings. Don’t get me wrong, I have heard people say this, and regard animals as plants, when the food (or animal) itself is not being anywhere vegetarian. An animal is defined as an animal and plants are defined as plants. At least I know that much. You can combine the two and eat a somewhat omnivorous diet, but as being a vegetarian, still consuming eggs and dairy it is important to know that the animal products are still animal products. They complement the plant foods you’re eating. The egg is not a vegetarian product, nor is the dairy. By saying that, it’s totally fine to eat like an omelette if you’re vegetarian, but that does not mean you’re eating plants by just consuming the omelette. See what I mean?

People for real counts eggs as being a fruit or something, fish and chickens for beings without emotions and dairy as a magical formula that just pours out of the cows for no reason that we as humans also must consume to help save the cows. All vegetarian, of course if you’d consider yourself being one. Like, WTF?!

Ok, you might think I’m overreacting here and I wish I was, but I’ve thought about this for a while now and I’m only getting more angry over the whole thing. The video linked above to GojiMan on YouTube enhanced these feelings for me even more. He says in the video that it’s great to be vegan for the animals (and I agree), but he ultimately concludes (or something) that all vegans who do it for the animals only eat junk food. That cannot possibly be right? I think talking about veganism in that matter only makes the whole thing about “you’re not vegan enough” crap that’s spreading like wildfire on YouTube, especially, a whole lot worse.

Let’s get one thing straight, though… I know there are so called junk food vegans out there and that is totally fine. I also am well aware about the Plant Based movement as well, but to automatically suggest or claim that vegans can only call themselves vegan if they ONLY do it for the animals is so sickening and it is not helping the vegan movement at all. Of course it is really important to think about the animals when you’re discussing or talking about veganism or vegetarianism. It matters! Their lives matters! But our health matters as well and so does the planet’s health. So it is important to go vegan for all reasons and to relax and accept all vegans for their reasons to go vegan. As long as they eat vegan food, everything should be fine but apparently it is not. Like WTF?! I also think it’s fine (like I’m trying to do) to take your time to get rid and switch the animal products in your home in the time and manners that suit you. Like switching to vegan/cruelty-free make-up products and shampoo and next time you need to buy a new sofa, you do not buy a leather one. Just because you go vegan (for whatever reason)doesn’t mean you have to change everything over night. It can be a process over time. And that’s fine! The most important thing is to start with what you’re eating and eat vegan defined foods.

As another example, I watched this video yesterday or something and I think it’s like pure harassment that people who are vegans (for the animals, of course 😉 ) hate her and say that she can’t call herself vegan because she’s doing it for other reasons than the animals? I mean, WTF?! Ok, in the video she says that she sometimes eat fish, like on Christmas eve or something and a few other days of the year. Otherwise she eats vegan. I’d personally call her a semi-vegan and I understand her reasons for making it easy when she orders stuff in restaurants to say she’s vegan, because she primarily eats like that 99% of the year. At least that’s how I interpreted her. I might be wrong. What is wrong is other vegans hating on her because she does not do it for the animals! It is so crazy. She says herself in the video that nobody cared when she ate meat, but when she’s vegan – but not for the animals, then there is war!

I don’t know… it is all so silly. I wish that things will go back to normal and being vegan – no matter for what reasons is ok, and that it is okay as well to be a junk food vegan or being a healthy WFPB eater. Thinking that the vegan word does not only have to mean it’s all about the animals will do a whole lot more for the vegan movement I think in the long run. Being a vegan ultimately starts with your diet!

Veganism – the series | What I shall be writing about

In my last post, I told all of my 2 readers that I am a vegetarian and that I plan on doing a series of posts and hopefully also videos about veganism. This is the first post in the series, and we shall see how successful I’ll be about this whole thing.

First of all, I shall be doing a somewhat intro, or perhaps go deeper in to why I’m doing this. I shall also do a post or perhaps more about how to spread the message about veganism (and also how NOT to do it!). I shall try and link to research, YouTube videos that explains all of my points a whole lot more and also other links that could be useful.

Regarding videos, I really do not know what I should do yet, but I guess that all the videos and the blog post will be basically the same, or at least have similar topics. I shall do the videos on my other channel, since I will not be doing videos about Great Danes just yet. Unless a miracle happens and I get rich.

If the videos get somewhat popular, I might start vlogging about “what I eat in a day” or start making recipe videos. It all depends on if I get 10 views or maybe a steady view of thousands…

I’m vegetarian.

Yes. It’s true. I’ve been one, very successfully as well since december 1st 2016. I haven’t really gone public with it until just a few months ago on my swedish personal blog, but all people I meet have known it from basically day 1, since I do not longer choose to consume meat. I do however consider myself a so called “lacto-ovo” vegetarian, because I still consume dairy and egg products. I’d still consume honey as well, but since I’m not a fan of that, I do not eat that much. If I should take a guess, I only eat honey if it’s in a piece of candy or a baked cake. I do not like it by itself and I prefer stevia in my tea.

To be honest, since we moved into Malmö and got ourselves settled I’ve started to really take charge of my eating habits and I can basically call myself a semi-vegan these days. My breakfasts and lunches are almost always vegan and dinner rarely consists of large volumes of milk and egg products. The dairy is like a little from cheese sometimes, or perhaps from a sauce made with milk instead of a plant based option. The eggs are like barely non existing and usually comes from some processed product like a ready made sauce. Real eggs from the store we basically never buy. Perhaps once a year and that’s fine with me.

However, these past few weeks, I hurt my back. I got lumbago according to the dictionary. I don’t know if it’s the correct term, but wtf. Who cares? I hurt my back. Yet another thing that sucks with having this particular body. Fibromyalgia, being overweight, having IBS is not enough. No, I have to have a stiffness that cannot be regulated, I don’t know how to relax it either and I sit like a beanbag or something. I also rarely stand up, move around or walk as much as I should. And because of me being sedentary deluxe – I get lumbago as well. Yet another thing to fix. And fix it I have done my best to do, or something. I’ve had the pains for over two weeks, but it’s basically ok now. It only hurts when I move my body a certain way, like bending my knees while keeping my back straight. This is also a move I have like never performed in my life before this lumbago thing. My body is generally so stiff that I really do not know how to bend my knees, which is also a generating part to me getting a hurting back. It was just a matter of time.

Ok, enough with the back thing. What I was getting to is, due to my hurting back, I’ve not eaten that great since it annoys and hurts me to much to stand in the kitchen preparing food, but I plan to go back to eating a lot better as soon as I can.

The positive thing is since I made this small change in my life, when I sort of went somewhat semi-vegan, I’ve finally started to lose weight. I’ve lost several inches so far, but it’s going slow. It’s however a great thing that my belly is a bit smaller now, and this has happened pretty fast. I lose about half an inch a week, so that is good progress. I have about 10-15 inches bellyfat to lose if I can reach my goal. And eating more whole foods is really the trick! My main goal is really just to maximize my fiber intake. From basically zero to at least 25 grams of fiber per day is what I’m trying to do now. At the beginning, when I ate a lot of oats and berries for breakfast (about 10-15 grams of fiber) and a lentil stew for lunch, (at least 20 grams of fiber) and lots of veggies for dinner, I easily get 40 grams of fiber a day and that’s huge! I also wish that someday I’ll start making smoothies as well, and I try to snack on berries or dates/figs or other fiber rich foods instead of candy. But of course. I still have pizza, probably once a week and there have been a few days here and there where I eat basically nothing but candy and potato chips. And I still drink a lot of soda, Pepsi Max or other diet sodas are the go to and have been for years.

Well. Now you know I’m vegetarian. My goal is to go vegan, and I’m doing all this primarily for health reasons, even though I’m not healthy as a person at all. I have to lose weight and I have to see if there is any way to get a body that works better than it has before.

In order for this blog to get some more action, I’m starting a series of blog posts. What’s it’s gonna be called, I do not know yet. I have a lot to say regarding veganism, what the right diet is and other interesting stuff. I might even start making videos again on one of my YouTube channels, since I’ve basically not uploaded a thing in like a year to either of them, but all the thoughts in my head have to get heard, I think.

In order to improve my own health, spread the importance of veganism and lose the weight I have to to this.

I’m used to never feeling 100% well. There’s always something wrong. If it’s not muscles aching from fibromyalgia pains, or me having to use a mile worth of toilet paper a day because of my IBS problems, it’s always something.

And now I’ve taken the first steps to fix it.
